Following the tourist boom and the annexation of Nice to France in 1860, the Musicians district experienced growth with the construction of new buildings. Once populated with numerous small Niçoise villas, gardens, watercress beds, and horticultural farms, this neighborhood has acquired a particular charm.

The streets bear the names of famous musicians, adding a poetic touch to the district's nomenclature. These buildings, generally dating from the early 20th century, illustrate the iconic architectural style of Eclectic Belle Époque in Nice, between 1895 and 1920.

Among these architectural treasures, the Gounod Palace, located at 24 Rue Gounod, stands out. Awarded at the 1906 architecture competition, it represents a superb blend of Art Nouveau and Belle Époque. Unfortunately, its dome has been lost over time. A fascinating anecdote: Moët et Chandon champagnes occupied the raised ground floor on the Rossini Street side, hence the sublime panels in glass paste mosaic style representing generous bunches of dried grapes.
